The floors also won’t expand or contract under the normal conditions that would cause other floors to do so; as COREtec Plus is inert and dimensionally stable. Illuminate Your Winter

What time did it get dark last night? Far too early for me, anyway! I’ve never been a huge fan of the dark nights, they can have the odd benefit – cozying up in bed with a hot chocolate and not feeling guilty about it being one of them – but generally, Scottish Winters are tough. To help you combat the dark, depressing evenings, we’re putting on a gigantic lighting sale in our showroom to brighten up your winter!

Our lighting selection is pretty vast, with plenty to choose from, so we figured we’d try and break it down a bit for you. So here are four styles of light you’ll come across here at Modish Furnishing!

Classical

The timeless classical style of lighting, just as relevant 500 years ago as it is today. Some of our most popular products fall under this category, with chandeliers ruling the roost and being able to elegantly adorn the modern home. Opting for a chandelier is an excellent way to add a bit of class to a room, and can even work well in a contemporary setting, if you choose the right one!

Ambiance

“Turn a lamp on, let’s get some ambiance in here” – we’re all guilty of this line! However cliché it has become, there’s certainly a lot of truth to it. The ‘Big Light’ can often feel a bit over the top and overpowering.

Sometimes a lamp is exactly what is required to set a mood or help you relax on the sofa after a day at work. With this in mind, we’ve added plenty of table lamps and floor lamps to our winter sale.

Flush Lighting

Everyone differs when it comes to style and preference and it’s not uncommon to find people who simply don’t like chandeliers. For that person, we recommend our flush lighting section, which keeps the frame and light nice and close to the ceiling.

With such a wide variety of different flush lights available, perhaps we should have narrowed this one down more, but we figured it best to keep it to a ‘style’ theme. From smooth circular shaped lighting to eccentric and unique shapes, there’s definitely something to suit your taste!

Modern

Describing something as ‘modern’ can be controversial, who’s to say what looks modern and what doesn’t? And when does something stop looking modern?

Today, we’re describing some of LED light section as being modern. Generally speaking, something with LED lights tends to look new, stylish and current, as is the case with the majority of the stunning LED lighting fixtures we have on offer.

These various fittings and lamps give you a world of choice when it comes to their shape and you’re able to choose the light that perfectly blends into your home environment.

How to clean your Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is wonderful. We’re huge fans of it here at Modish Furnishing, and our customers are too.  Opting for a laminate floor in your home comes with a variety of different benefits. We’ve spoken about those advantages before in the blog, so we won’t repeat ourselves here, but today we’re looking at maintaining your new laminate floor.

Cleaning and maintaining your laminate floor may not be as straightforward as you thought: it’s not as simple as wiping it down with a wet mop. Excess amounts of water on laminate flooring can cause the laminate to warp, ruining your lovely new floor. Likewise, using the wrong type of cleaning solution can stain the laminate board.

Neither of these two options is very desirable, especially not when you’ve just invested in what you hoped would be a long-term purchase. This is why it’s so important to take good care of your laminate floor; with just a little TLC, you can add years onto the life of a laminate floor and prevent it from losing its sheen and structure.

We obviously want you to get the most out of your new floor and for you to remain happy with it, even years down the line; so here’s some handy tips on how to keep your laminate floor in tip top condition:

Don’t get it too wet!

This rule isn’t reserved solely for Gremlins, getting your laminate flooring wet can cause it some serious damage. It’s crucial to be very careful when using water to clean your laminate floor, as too much can cause the floor to warp and swell, resulting in a ruin of a floor. So be sparing when using water to clean the floor!

We recommend using a spray bottle and only applying a little on select areas of the floor you intend to mop. If the floor can’t dry by itself after a few minutes then you’re using too much!

Sweep Regularly

Laminate flooring can get stained and sticky but a great way to pre-empt this is by making sure you sweep up on the regular. This removes any excess dirt and so on, and helps to prevent the issue worsening. When sweeping, it’s important that you use a brush with soft bristles, as stiff bristles can damage

Invest in mats

Simple, but effective: buying door mats encourages people to think about the mess they’re dragging into your home. They’ll either wipe their shoes or the sight of a mat will force them to consider taking their shoes off altogether.

Having to take your shoes off in someone’s house is always a bit of an annoyance, but if it keeps your floor nice and clean, who cares!

Get the hoover out!

The humble hoover, or vacuum cleaner to our friends across the pond, is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century. It has revolutionised cleaning in our homes and has undoubtedly saved countless lives due to the improved hygiene it offers.

Laminate flooring and the hoover go hand in hand. A quick once over with the hoover and your laminate floor will look good as new, with dust and dirt swiftly disposed of. Do be careful though, laminate floors tend to be pretty scratch resistant, but you shouldn’t take that as a given. You don’t want a big scratch down your floor.

No chemicals!

Staying away from harmful bleaches and chemicals will make a huge difference when it comes to the maintenance of your laminate floor. It might be tempting to grab for the bleach when you spot a stain, but we’d always recommend other options, damp cloths and a bit of elbow grease will generally get just about anything out.

Warm water will always work better than cold, but you don’t want to be damaging your floor with steaming hot liquid, even if it is just water. Using diluted vinegar in the water is also a great way to avoid using chemicals while getting rid of any stains you’re facing.

For more stubborn stains, get creative: Nail polish? Get the nail polish remover. Blood? Use a touch of window cleaner and a damp cloth.

Act Fast!

Probably the most important piece of advice on this list: when you spill, clean it up immediately!

Wiping up the mess straight away means you don’t allow the liquid in the spillage to seep through the cracks or cause any kind of lasting damage to your floor.

Simply get a sponge, dry cloth or paper towel and blot the spill as soon as it happens, then, if you need to, dampen a cloth and give a more thorough wipe to remove any lingering stains.

Following these tips will help to keep your floor in great condition for the duration of its life span, saving you money in the long run. For more advice on laminate floors, you can come down to our showroom, or give us a call on 0141 429 3541, and one of our flooring experts will help guide you through buying and maintaining a new laminate floor.

What are the benefits of Laminate Flooring?

So it’s time to get a new floor. This is a big decision, not to be taken lightly. This is a choice you are going to be stuck with for a good number of years. No pressure!

We understand that this can be a daunting task for people, after all, many questions need to be asked:  Which type of floor should I get? What are the benefits of Laminate flooring? Why should I choose Laminate flooring over carpet?

Don’t worry though, you’ve got Glasgow’s finest on your side to help you through the process – the team down here at Modish Furnishing know a thing or two about flooring! So let’s have a look at the benefits of choosing laminate!

Laminate flooring is cost effective

One of the main factors for anyone when purchasing a new floor is cost. As with any purchase, this is a crucial element that needs to be taken into consideration when redecorating – where the costs can easily soar and you can quickly find yourself over-budget.

Laminate comes out on top against hardwood flooring and carpet when it comes to its cost effectiveness. When compared with hardwood flooring, made of natural materials such as oak and maple, the synthetic laminate is a lot cheaper to buy and fit. With carpet, it and laminate can be similarly priced; however, you’ll find yourself paying a lot more for a higher-end carpet than you will for the top-quality laminates.

Laminate flooring is easy to maintain

Another important thing to consider when buying a new floor: how much maintenance does it need? It’s tiresome enough having to choose a new floor and then to have it fitted, you don’t need the further inconvenience of cleaning, protecting and maintaining it.

This is what is required when you opt for a hardwood floor or carpet though. With natural wooden floors come the necessary upkeep, such as daily cleaning (with the right kind of products), ensuring it doesn’t get wet and making sure dust isn’t allowed to rest between the floor boards. Not to mention the anxiety you’ll face about scuffing the natural wood – shoes off at the door please!

Similarly, carpet comes with its own challenges – if you live in a house with pets, young children or even clumsy adults, you risk staining the carpet. Carpets with stains aren’t always easily cleaned up, and replacing a whole carpet because of one stain is something people often have to deal with.

With laminate, its composition protects it from spills and stains, which makes maintaining its appearance exceptionally easy to do. Semi-regular sweeping or vacuuming a laminate floor is all that is required to keep it in good shape.

Laminate flooring is versatile

The versatility of laminate flooring is another one of its great advantages. It can be installed over any existing flooring in the home, other than carpet. This makes the installation of laminate both easy and more cost effective than other types of flooring.

Its versatility also extends to where you can have it in the home; Laminate is an acceptable and suitable choice for any room in the home, whether it be in the living room, bathroom or kitchen.

There’s something for everyone

The synthetic nature of laminate flooring means you are met with mountains of choice when it comes to actually picking your design. For some, too much choice may seem like a burden, we say it’s a blessing though! Laminate gives you the opportunity to make your home feel unique to you. With such a range of options, you’ll definitely be able to find the right floor for you.

So there you have it, some great reasons why laminate flooring is the right choice for you. Here at Modish Flooring we have a wide selection of high quality laminates, all at great prices. Pop down to the showroom to browse our ranges and speak to our experts.
