Stone International: The Ultimate Marble Buing Guide

Stone International: The Ultimate Marble Buing Guide

Stone International is one of the oldest manufacturers of natural stone furniture on the market today. Making its start in the mid-1970's, Stone International has earned its position as the leader in the industry. The stones and marbles used in our product are all natural - presenting all the variations and unique colorings found in nature. Because they are natural products, no two pieces will look alike. None of the natural veins, pores, and variations are to be considered defects, but instead characteristics that make your table on-of-a-kind and enhance its beauty.

To help select the perfect marble for your table we have created an in-depth stone guide below.

TRAVERTINE

The Filled/Polished Travertine is the most popular italian travertine. It shows a light beige background color. Its texture typically presents swirled veins coming in shades of brown and grey. It shows frequently small dark areas due to natural iron inclusions. The stripes /veins can extend from end to end of the table or blend throughout giving the appearance of ocean waves. In its natural form has “holes”, “pores” and “fissures” that are filled and sealed with colored fillers and/or small pieces of the same material before polishing. Consequently the surface is not regular due to the presence of residual micro-holes/pores that determine the natural characteristic of the travertine itself.

TIVOLI SILVER

The Tivoli Silver travertine comes from Italy and is a light beige travertine. Its texture typically shows a "cloudy" morphology with light and darker areas of the same background color tone. It shows frequently very small white or grey patches due to natural fossil shells or iron inclusions. In its natural form has “holes”, “pores” and “fissures” that are filled and sealed with transparent resins and small metal silver foils blended with reflective crystals that produce the sparkling effect of a precious stone. Consequently the surface is not regular due to the presence of residual micro-holes/pores that determine the natural characteristic of the travertine itself.

TIVOLI GOLD

The Tivoli Gold travertine comes from Italy and is a light beige travertine. Its texture typically shows a "cloudy" morphology with light and darker areas of the same background colour tone. It shows frequently very small white or grey patches due to natural fossil shells or iron inclusions. In its natural form has “holes”, “pores” and “fissures” that are filled and sealed with transparent resins and small metal gold foils blended with reflective crystals that produce the sparkling effect of a precious stone. Consequently, the surface is not regular due to the presence of residual micro-holes/pores that determine the natural characteristic of the travertine itself.

GLAM TRAVERTINE

Glam travertine comes from Italy and is a brown/grey travertine. Its texture typically shows swirled veins coming in all shades of brown, beige, and grey from very dark to light tones. It shows frequently very narrow veins ranging from white to yellow due to natural iron inclusions. The stripes /veins can extend from end to end of the table or blend throughout giving the appearance of ocean waves. In its natural form has “holes”, “pores” and “fissures” that are filled and sealed with transparent resins, coloured fillers, and/or small pieces of the same material before polishing. Consequently, the surface is not regular due to the presence of residual micro-holes/pores that determine the natural characteristic of the travertine itself.

CORTINA WHITE

Cortina White (also called white Carrara marble) comes from the Apuan alps in the north of Tuscany. It has a background color that can range from white to light gray with veins or marks of dark grey/black color. Cortina White can show some small holes on the surface that are called “taroli”. They are not imperfections or polishing defects but natural characteristics inherent to the material that cannot be filled even by means of the best polishing technologies.

AMANI LIGHT

The Amani Light comes from Italy. It has a light beige background colour with white large veins and small dark narrow lines. Amani Light can show some small holes or fissures on the surface. They are not imperfections or polishing defects but natural characteristics inherent to the material that cannot be filled even by means of the best polishing technologies.

MIDNIGHT GREY

Midnight grey comes from Italy. It has unique patterns and colour variations rarely seen among other marble stones. Background colour is dark grey, sometimes with slightly bronzed colour tones. The swirled veins comes in all shades of grey from very dark to light tones. It shows frequently very narrow veins ranging from orange to red due to natural iron inclusions. The stripes/veins can extend from end to end of the table or blend throughout giving the appearance of grey ocean waves. In its natural form Midnight Grey marble has “holes” that are sealed with grey resins and/or small pieces of the same marble before polishing. Consequently the surface is not always regular due to the presence of darker filled areas or residual micro-holes.

BEIGE FANTASY

The Beige Fantasy comes from Italy. It has unique patterns and colour variations rarely seen among other marble stones. The background colour is beige taupe, sometimes with slightly bronzed colour tones. The swirled veins come in all shades of brown from very dark to light tones. It shows frequently very narrow veins ranging from orange to red due to natural iron inclusions. In its natural form Beige Fantasy marble has “holes” that are sealed with grey resins and/or small pieces of the same marble before polishing. Consequently, the surface is not always regular due to the presence of darker-filled areas or residual micro-holes.
